ABOUT

A modern cooperative

Penn Center House (PCH) is located in the Center City West neighborhood of Philadelphia. Designed by Philadelphia architect George S. Idell, PCH was built in 1959 by the R. M. Shoemaker Company. PCH consists of 431 residential units, as well as a parking garage and a commercial property.

Penn Center House is a housing cooperative, which is different from a condo or an apartment. Housing cooperatives provide housing for their Members, who are stockholders in the corporation. The purchase of a share, in the form of a Membership Certificate, entitles the purchaser to hold a proprietary lease for a particular unit, commonly known as the Occupancy Agreement. The Occupancy Agreement gives the purchaser the right to occupy a dwelling and to participate as a Member in the operation of Penn Center House. It is important to note that the purchase of a unit is not a real property investment, but rather a Membership in a Cooperative Housing Corporation.
